The 2015 vintage started in late March, which was an average time of year to harvest our Semillon grapes.  The growing season experienced average winter rainfall and temperatures were mild.  The summer was warm and dry with small amounts of drizzly rain.  Birds were their usual hungry selves, so all vines were netted to prevent bird damage and disease.  This resulted in clean, ripe and well balanced fruit.  Harvesting was a challenging time as a cyclone formed in the north of the state and rapidly slipped south. We successfully harvested the last of the chardonnay grapes 15 minutes before the heavy rain started.  The vines cropped and average of 4.0 tonne per hectare of fruit.

Wine makers: Anthony & Peter Buxton. Consultant: Michael Staniford.

The Semillon was harvested to achieve maximum fruit complexity and flavour. The fruit was de-stemmed, basket pressed then cold fermented at 15 ºC in stainless steel tanks for 3 weeks. The wine was not wooded and bottled early with stelvin closures to preserve the vibrant fruit flavours.

Palate The initial flavours are lemon and limes leading to a grassy palate with hints of passionfruit, and a long crisp finish.
