Firstly, dams provide the water supply for the livestock. These dams can be difficult to seal at times.
The first 1 to 2 metres of clay is the best for sealing dams on our property.
The vineyard water supply and the flower water supply come from soaks. Soaks are a dam in the sandy ground in a perched water table, found below the southern sandy slopes and just above the flats. The water supply is excellent and very good quality.
Between the surface soils and the bedrock are water bearing alluvium or silts. The water level in this material varies over the property from 4 metres to 16 metres. The water once again is very good quality and can be high yielding. Seven hectares of our new plantings are watered from one of our three bores.
