These are a large landscape units, which are either north or south facing. The vineyard is on a north slope and the flowers grow on a south-facing slope. The vineyard soils are dark grey, or yellow brown sandy gravels over yellowish red or red clay at 600 mm. There is also grey brown sandy gravel to100 mm with a laterized layer to 600 mm over yellowish to red clay. The laterized layer is exposed in parts of the vineyard. The vegetation on this site was previously a Jarrah and Marri Forest.
The south facing slopes are quite different. At the top of the slope it is laterized profile similar to the vineyard site. Then mid slope it has a dark grey sand to 50 mm then light grey sand for 1000 to 2000 mm, over yellow-red gravel over yellow to red clay. The vegetation on site was previously Black Butt, Sheoak woodland.
